(2016) English is taught in Indonesia mainly as a subject and seldom practiced
in the board social environment. Most English language teachers are native speakers
of Indonesian and they vary considerably in terms of their mastery of the English
language. In particular we should not be regarded as true bilinguals who can choose
freely between codes or languages. Instead, they are more accurately monoligual
indivviduals who have skill and knowledge in foreign language and whose task is
to teach this language to the monolingual laerners.

by the teachers and is used a good strategy in explaining instructions, translating
difficult vocabulary, managing class, giving background information and
reducing students’ nervousness.

of foreign language teachers received attention in the 1980. From then on,
there has been the heated debate between different views on whether it is helpful
or impending to switch back and forth betwen the target language and the native
language in the foreign language learning classroom.
