4          THE INFLUENCE STUDENTS (SPEAKING) ABILITY BY USING REVOLVING CIRCLE METHOD  IN NARRATIVE TEXT AT THE SMP/SMA

This method builds up student confidence in communication techniques as they engage in short discussions. It also allows students to sample a wide range of views without holding a whole class discussion. Students may, as a result, refine their ideas or opinions on a particular issue.

The Procedures as follows:

1.      Students divide into two groups.

2.      One group forms an inner circle and the other group forms an outer circle Students face each other.

3.      The pairs exchange views for approximately one minute on a particular issue.

4.      The inner circle then rotates clockwise and the outer circle rotates anti-clockwise.

5.      The new pair consider the question.

6.      The rotation may continue until students have had the opportunity to discuss the question with a wide range of partners.

7.      A debrief afterwards is beneficial.

8.      This activity could also be used with simulations.
