Reading allows students to observe facts and details about text. Students may
focus on a particular passage, or on the text as a whole. The goal
is for students to notice all striking features of the text, including
structural elements or cultural references.
Through
close reading students are able to move from the observation of particular
facts and details in the text to a conclusion, or interpretation, based on those
observations.
