English Teaching at Elementary School
In
teaching English at elementary school, an English teacher must understand first
about the English curriculum that is used as the teaching program in teaching
English at elementary school and the second, an English teacher must understand
the characteristics of children who become the object of English teaching at
elementary school.

The English Curriculum Used at Elementary
School
The English curriculum that is used at elementary school is based on the Head of
National Education Department policy on the KTSP English Curriculum (2006 : 4),
that involves the rational of the
curriculum, the definition, the functions and the purposes, the scopes, the
competence standard across curriculum, the competence, standard of the
material, the competence standard of English local content subject at
elementary school and the guidelines. The
details of the curriculum description are as followed :

The Rational of the Curriculum
It describes the role of the language as the central
of the intelectual, social and students’ emotional development, and also as the
key of success in learning all the subjects.
b.
The Definition of the Curriculum
English is an international language that needs to
teach for the purpose of absorbing and developing the science, technology and
arts, and also developing the countries relationship.
