Penelitian Korelasi

Penelitian Korelasi atau disebut juga Causal research adalah suatu penelitian yang melibatkan tindakan pengumpulan data guna menentukan, apakah ada hubungan dan tingkat hubungan antara dua variabel atau lebih. Penelitian korelasi mempunyai tiga karakteristik penting untuk para peneliti yang hendak menggunakannya, yaitu:

a.     Penelitian korelasi tepat jika variabel kompleks dan penelitian tidak mungkin melakukan manipulasi dan mengontrol variabel seperti dalam penelitian eksperimen;

b.    Memungkinkan variabel diukur secara intensif dalam setting (lingkungan) nyata

c.    Memungkinkan peneliti mendapatkan derajat asosiasi yang significant.

Tujuan dan Manfaat Penelitian Korelasi

Tujuan dilakukan analisis korelasi adalah (1) untuk membuktikan apakah ada atau  tidak hubungan interaksi antar variable, (2)  untuk melihat tingkat keeratan hubungan antar variable jika terdapat hubungan interaksi antar variable, (3) untuk memperoleh kejelasan apakah hubungan tersebut berarti atau signifikan atau tidak signifikan.

Manfaat Penelitian Korelasi

Salah satu manfaat penelitian korelasi adalah untuk memprediksi tingkat satu variable dari variable lain yang memiliki hubungan korelasi tinggi dan positif.Jika misalnya hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa hubungan korelasional antara kemampuan membaca dan kemampuan menulis siswa SMP tinggi dan positif, maka nilai kemampuan membaca bisa digunakan untuk memprediksi nilai kemempuan menulis.Dan semakin tinggi koefesien korelasi semakin kuatlah prediksinya.
