A.
Background
Prince in Sulfiana (2005:1)
states that speaking is a means of oral communication in expressing ideas,
information and feeling to others. Learning to speak is obviously more
difficult than learning to understand the spoken language (Chastain, 1976:334).
As speaking is difficult, it is not enough for the students to hear or listen
to speech only. They must speak the language out and practice their performance skill in action.
“The teacher will need to give the students ample opportunity to
practice the speaking skill“(River, 1968:160). Students, after being exposed to
English language are expected to be able to speak the language. Most of them do
not speak English in teaching learning process. They only listen to the English
words read by the teacher, but seldom try to speak out the words that they have
listened. Therefore, the students need to be motivated and given chance to
practice their English.
